Our studio access sessions are open to anyone with pottery experience to come and practise or work on your own projects. Ideally you will have completed 12 weeks of classes with us or elsewhere, but please get in touch to discuss your experience and requirements if not.
It's not a taught class, so you'll be working independently, although guidance and tips are sometimes available on certain days of the week.
The booking fee includes use of equipment, storage space, clay, glazes and bisque firing. We expect you to clean up and leave all tools as equipment as you found them.
Bisque firing is included, but you'll need to pay £4/kg for any work you put into be glaze fired. Weigh and pay for your items by card before they go into the kiln.

No time limit on your session - the 4 hour sessions listed below give us an idea of your arrival time, but you may stay later / arrive earlier if it's within the opening hours

To sign up for monthly membership you can select a date below to sign up for your first session and induction. At the induction we will let you know how to pay for future months, and how to book your space in the studio to ensure you always get a wheel or hand-building space!

What's included?

How much experience do I need to have?
If you have taken 12+ weeks of classes here or elsewhere you're welcome to join the Studio Access programme. If you haven't completed this, please get in touch to discuss your experience before booking. Everyone is different and we are interested in your ability to work independently and behave responsibly in the studio.
What kind of clay do you use?
We only work with mid-fire and stoneware clays in the studio and always offer 1 x smooth, buff/speckled clay and 1 x smooth, white firing clay for our members. Other specialist clays can be purchased and approved for use in the studio.
What glazes are available?
The studio is stocked with around 15 x dipping glazes which are all mixed in house. We'll always provide staples like 1 x gloss and 1 x matte white, 1 x clear gloss and 1 x clear matte, plus a variety of brighter colours and neutrals. Members can request colours that they'd like to see in the studio.
How long does firing take?
Firing is organised with a queue system. We aim to complete firing of your work within 7-10 days of it being submitted to the firing shelves, but it can take up to 14 days during busy periods.
If you need something more urgently, you can simply ask for a queue jump.
Do I need my own tools?
No, we'll provide aprons, all tools and equipment, but if you have your own you are welcome to bring them.
Due to space, casual members would need to take their own tools & aprons home with them. Monthly members have a dedicated shelf to store their work and any of their own tools.
Is there parking?
Onsite parking is available but it is charged at £6, cash only. On evenings and weekends you can park for free on Higher Ardwick, and you can find cheaper and free parking at all times around Powerleague, Union Street and Temperance Street.
Do you offer a firing service for people with a home studio?
Yes, for non-members we charge £4/kilo for bisqueware and £5/kilo for glaze firings. We fire to approx 1240°c/Cone 7.
We'll need to confirm the clays and glazes you have used to ensure they are suitable for our firing, and we may charge additional fees if our kiln is damaged as a result of your work.
